Methyl B-12 10,000 mcg – Pharmacokinetic (pK) Study

Bioavailability Study

Methyl B-12 is a co-enzyme form of vitamin B-12 (cobalamin) necessary for the production of energy from fats and proteins. It plays a critical role in DNA synthesis, as well as in homocysteine metabolism. Three healthy adult volunteers 22 to 58 years old participated in a clinical trial to study the bioavailability of Methyl B-12, a dietary supplement from NOW® (item # 0501). Serum cobalamin was measured at baseline, and again at 1, 3, 7 and 24 hours following oral administration of one lozenge providing 10,000 mcg of vitamin B-12.

Results

Average cobalamin level was increased one hour after administration, and peaked seven hours following administration, reaching 54% above the baseline level. Average cobalamin concentration remained 17% above the baseline level 24 hours post-supplementation. This study confirms the exceptional bioavailability of NOW® Methyl B-12.

Average serum cobalamin level before, and at 1, 3, 7 and 24 hours following a single administration of one Methyl B-12 lozenge (NOW®, Bloomingdale, IL; item # 0501) providing 10,000 mcg of methylcobalamin in healthy adult volunteers.
